
2025 alum - Dr. Xiaoyu Chang (Matilda)
Xiaoyu Chang (Matilda) graduated with a PhD from the School of Creative Media with Dr. LC. She previously graduated from the University of Glasgow, with mechanical engineering and automobile background. Her research at SNS included how to overcome perception of being ignored by service robots, and creative expression with robot support, especially in movement-based performance. Her first-author publications include HRI, CSCW, CHI, etc.

2025 alum - Dr. Marty Miller
Dr. Marty Miller is a visual culture and adult education researcher interested in Hong Kong's technological culture. Obtaining his PhD at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, he bridges these disciplines by noting how image-creation practices adapt to emergent technology and why this influence informs the meanings created. Specifically, found photography and technological literacy designs fuel his scholarly output, funded creative work, and integrated teaching practice. Marty's works with SNS are published in DIS, Journal of Play, ACM CC, etc.

2025 alum - Kloe Kexin Chen
Kloe was full-time research assistant at the Studio for Narrative Spaces. Her work included exploring how Chinese language users interact with GPT-based tools in writing essays, supporting creativity through mixed reality card games, and studying human perception of robots expressing gratitude in a creative task. Her domain of interest are human-AI interaction and games for social causes like cultural heritage transmission. After her RAship, Kloe became a PhD student at Pennsylvania State University in the USA.

2025 alum - Yan Shuxin Wang
Yan was a research assistant who graduated from City University of Hong Kong BFA and MFA. As an artist, she uses video and GenAI to explore auto-ethnographic issues. Her digital works have been shown in ISCA featival, Turku Animated Film Festival, Clockenflap Music Festival, Insomnia Festival, Animakom Fest, Future Vision Festival, etc. Her work with SNS contributed to research contributed to projects on digital memorialization of death, published in ISEA. She also exhibited with SNS at Fringe Club, SIGGRAPH Asia, ACC Gwangju.

2025 alum - Fan Zhang (Grace)
Grace was a full-time research assistant at the School of Creative Media SNS, who came from Karolinska Institutet. With a medical background, she is interested in the field of human-computer interaction and XR with applications in health. She is always intrigued by outdoor activities and has a passion for crocheting, crafting adorable little things. Her prolific one-year stay at SNS included first-author publications in CSCW, CHI, DIS, etc.

2025 alum - Yihuan Li
Yihuan is an undergraduate CS student who also minors in neuroscience at the City University of Hong Kong. She is interested in BMI and HCI and has a burning desire to explore the role of memory in learning and spatial interaction. She enjoys reading, music, photography, and sports! During her 2 years at SNS, she co-edited a book on performance technology, and contributed to publications in CSCW, DIS, with a Best Paper Award as first-author at HCII.

2024 alum - Zhiyuan Zhang (Alan)
Zhiyuan is was a CS undergraduate student at City University of Hong Kong. He worked on human-machine co-storytelling, particularly the web GPT-2-based interface. He also helped produce machine-learning powered works in Sound Of(f) and Down the Holograph. Alan is a DJI drone pilot who enjoys exploring nature, and author at SNS of an IUI paper on AI-human co-writing and a CHI paper on dancing with drones. He is now a PhD student at Jing Liao's lab at CityU CS.

2024 alum - Luoying Lin
Luoying was a graduate student researcher at Studio for Narrative Spaces who worked with sports technology, VR for clinical applications, and speculative storytelling for sustainability applications. Luoying exhibited with SNS at FabCafe Kyoto and SIGGRAPH Asia. She was also co-author of works in Frontiers in VR and HRI LBW. She was previously a writer for OFCourse Shanghai and avid photographer before joining City University of Hong Kong as a grad student.

2024 alum - Mingyao Pan (Melissa)
Melissa was an undergraduate student in SCM who also minored in Psychology. She is responsible for running the Instagram and Rednote social media for the studio and editing videos for studio works. She's good at painting and has great interest in game, animation, and badminton. During her time at SNS, she contributed as a co-author in an HCII paper on game design with GenAI. She is now a graduate student at University of Hong Kong.

2024 alum - Kassie Jichan Jin
Kassie was an undergraduate student in BASCM at the City University of Hong Kong, with a strong passion for exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence, content creation, and digital media. She is interested in pop culture and its influence on modern media. As an IBDP Bilingual Diploma graduate, Kassie managed the SNS social media and public outreac while contributing to research support while working with SNS.

2024 alum - Ha Quang Minh
Minh is an undergraduate student at the School of Data Science at CityU. Minh comes from Vietnam. He is passionate about competitive programming, the statistical learning theory behind machine learning and AI, and using computer vision with robotics. He wishes to be a Machine Learning Engineering in the future! While working with SNS, he contributed to programming and research studies in HRI and CSCW.

2024 alum - Ling Ma (Christy)
Christy was an undergraduate student in Creative Media, and research assistant working on GenAI for game and interaction design. She is a double-major degree in business analysis. Her research interests focus on robotics and GenAI, and how these technologies can enrich creative workflows, specializing in data analysis for such studies. At SNS she was first-author of a HCII paper and co-author of HRI and DIS works. She is now a graduate student at Cornell.

2024 alum - Stella Yaxuan Mao
Stella was a research assistant at Studio for Narrative Spaces from School of Creative Media BA. She contributed to multiple studies while RA with the studio, working mostly on human-robotic interaction in domains like handwriting and pain communication. As co-author working with SNS, her research outputs were published at HRI, Frontiers in Physiology, IEEE VR, ICRA, etc. Stella is now a graduate student at University of Washington.
